(Austin, TX) Legal ethics expert Larry Joe Doherty launched his campaign to hold government accountable today, filing official paperwork to announce his bid for Texas Congressional District 10. Running from suburban Travis County along Highway 290 to suburban Harris County, the congressional district was created during the controversial 2003 redistricting engineered by Tom DeLay.
"When they divided up communities to patch together District 10, they wanted the Congressman who could be elected by the least amount of people." Doherty pointed out, "If the race could be decided by a handful of power brokers in the Republican primary, there literally is no public accountability."
District 10 is currently represented by Republican Michael McCaul, whose vulnerability was highlighted by a surprisingly low 55% re-election effort against an under-funded Democrat last year.
Doherty also noted that "they hand-picked Mike McCaul, and they got exactly what they wanted - a RCA dog listening for his master's voice. My campaign is about cleaning up the Bush administration's messes and holding cronies like McCaul accountable for their votes and their actions."
